30 knot winds

july 3rd was dave’s birthday and we celebrated it on the Raging Otter, a Hunter 326 out of Sausalito. It was my first charter and first time out with a crew of non-sailors but everything went rather smoothly. We sailed by the Golden Gate while it was still overcast but it cleared up as we went by the San Francisco waterfront and checked out SBC park from the water before heading around Treasure Island, Alcatraz and back to Sausalito. But then came the high winds…

I must say that the 30 knot winds made me a little nervous on a boat with only 1 semi-experienced sailor but i’m thankful that nobody got sick or hurt. that surely would have been the day to get sick with the 4-5 foot swells and high winds. i still can’t believe how everyone took naps down below in that kind of weather.

i can’t wait to take more people out to enjoy the bay like it’s supposed to be enjoyed. hopefully next time won’t be so intense. but until then, i gotta work on my sail trim..
